This course connects to the UHP鈥檚 vision with its focus on global healthcare systems and the complexities of public healthcare policies within governed systems. This course will provide students with foundational knowledge of varying types of healthcare systems in the world, as well as the inequities that may occur within these systems. With this knowledge, students will be better equipped to face the ethical and clinical dilemmas that healthcare professionals encounter when abiding to the core healthcare principle of 鈥渄o no harm鈥�.

This course is underpinned by a theoretical framework which draws heavily from scholars whose work emphasizes social justice, equity, and anti-oppression. This course will enable students to better understand healthcare systems around the world and healthcare/public health dilemmas. The focus of this course is on healthcare systems, policies, legislation, the politico-economics, and socio-cultural aspects of healthcare, and the role of everyday citizens in advocating for the health and well-being of society. Students will engage with the readings聽 and course content through reflective writing, debate, and collaborative projects.
