Advisors

All RSOs must have an advisor who is faculty or staff at the University. An advisor can serve in a variety of roles, and each advisor perceives their relation to an RSO differently. Some advisors play very active roles, attending meetings, working with RSO officers, and assisting in program planning and development. Other advisors maintain a more distant relationship to the organization. It is expected that each advisor will maintain regular contact with their RSO.聽

As University employees, advisors of an RSO do not have the authority to represent the views of the RSO.聽 Please refer to University Board Rule 10-17-01 for more information. This remains the responsibility of the RSO student members, who may not speak on behalf of the University.

RSO Advisors must...

  • Be a University faculty or staff member;
  • Complete Clery training and anti-hazing training;
  • Be listed as an advisor on the GetInvolved美高梅官网 roster;
  • Maintain awareness of University rules and policies to support RSO compliance;
  • Meet regularly with RSO leadership;
  • within one semester of becoming an advisor and annually after the first year;
  • Review financial requests; and
  • For RSOs with off-campus bank accounts, the advisor is responsible for the following:聽
    • Serve as the primary signee on the account, responsible for all account activity;聽
    • Review monthly statements with the RSO鈥檚 treasurer;聽
    • Ensure all purchases are related to the RSO鈥檚 operations and initiatives; and聽
    • Ensure all equipment purchases are accounted for and stored in a location accessible to the advisor and RSO members.

All full or part-time University employees (including student employees and graduate assistants) and volunteers acting in an official capacity who advise or coach an RSO, must report acts of hazing to the University and law enforcement.聽

As Campus Security Authorities, Advisors are required to immediately report any Clery Act crimes that have been reported to them in good faith, or that the Advisor may have personally witnessed, to the Clery Act Compliance Coordinator:
