Maria Adams
Maria Adams is a Fall 2023 graduate of the ÃÀ¸ß÷¹ÙÍø. She holds a Bachelor of  Arts in English with a concentration in Creative Writing and a Screenwriting Certificate. While at the ÃÀ¸ß÷¹ÙÍø she took part in the University Honors Program, was a Belong Coordinator within that program, and was a Resident Advisor. This past Fall 2023 she was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa honors society. She graduated summa cum laude from the ÃÀ¸ß÷¹ÙÍø.
Her poems and short stories have been published in the ÃÀ¸ß÷¹ÙÍø’s undergraduate literary journal during the three years she was a student there. During Spring semester 2023 she received an honorable mention for the Staples Capstone Prize for her submission from her capstone course: Creative Writing and Research.
As a Black creative writer she is passionate about poetry and utilizes it as a form of social justice that can uplift and explore the voices of marginalized communities. Ultimately it is a form of art whose power to enlighten and educate is invaluable.
Now graduated, Maria hopes to pursue a master’s degree in creative writing with a track in poetry in the Fall of 2024. In her free time she loves to read. Her favorite book and movie from last year was Red, White & Royal Blue! She also enjoys rainy days, conversations with dear friends, and humming along to any of her favorite Broadway tunes.Â
