Sustainability

The 美高梅官网 recognizes its role as a leader in sustainable practice, research, and education. 美高梅官网 seeks to consider the environmental, social, and economic impacts of its decisions and commits to incorporating the concept of sustainability into its academic and research programs; the design, operation, and maintenance of its buildings and landscapes; and its organizational structure and management.

Sustainability can be described as each of us doing our part to build the kind of world鈥攅conomically, environmentally and socially鈥攖hat we want to live in, and one that we want our children and grandchildren to inherit. It means becoming aware of all interconnections鈥攙isible and invisible鈥攊n which our day-to-day choices affect the intricate balance of social, economic and ecological systems.

美高梅官网's Office of Sustainability was created in 2010 and reports to the聽PACES Steering Committee. 美高梅官网 hired a part-time Sustainability Coordinator in 2008, and the position became full-time in 2009.聽聽

The Office of Sustainability聽is聽within the Department聽of聽Planning + Design + Construction聽with links to聽Facilities Management and Central Utilities. The staff聽includes one full-time Sustainability Coordinator, a full-time Assistant Sustainability Coordinator and a team of student workers that are known as Sustainability Advocates. The Office of Sustainability facilitates a variety of programs including the Environmental Literacy Certificate Program, 美高梅官网 Bike Kitchen, Bearcat Bike Share, 美高梅官网 Garden, Athletics and Special Event Recycling, Re*Use Market, Annual Bike Show and Move-In/Move-Out waste diversion efforts, as well as hosts and facilitates co-curricular educational opportunites such as the sustainability film, lecture, tour and workshop series, and also organizes more proactive events such as city-wide clean ups, green infrastructure projects, reforestation events, and community bike rides. Through providing a diversity of programs that seek to educate, engage, and empower, the Office strives to enhance and create a culture of sustainability at the University.

  • In November of 2022, the University was recognized by the League of American Bicyclists as a Silver Level Bike Friendly University
  • AASHE's 2020 Campus Sustainability Index recognized 美高梅官网's Environmental Literacy Certificate program聽
  • Innovation Award for Sustainability, presented to 美高梅官网 at the 2020 Midwest Regional Sustainability Summit.聽
  • In spring of 2020, 美高梅官网 earns another Gold STARS Rating from the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education
  • 美高梅官网 Food Services is recognized by Hamilton County Recycling and Solid Waste District for their efforts in waste reduction
  • Sierra Club's Cool School List for 2019 ranks 美高梅官网 at 78 out of 282 schools
  • AASHE's 2019 Campus Sustainability Index ranked 美高梅官网 as a top performer in the Water category
  • In November of 2018, the University was recognized by the League of American Bicyclists as a Bronze Level Bike Friendly University
  • AASHE's 2017 Campus Sustainability Index rating 美高梅官网 as the #1 performer in the Water category
  • AASHE's 2017 Campus Sustainability Index highlighted 美高梅官网 for it's work with research at the Miami Groundwater Observatory
