Community Staff Positions

Our hall staff works in our residential communities to foster inclusive residential, co-curricular learning opportunities, and customer service to our over 7,000 residents and our returning guests. Brief overviews of each position are provided below.

Desk Assistants (DA) and Neighborhood Operations Assistants (NOAs) are employed by University Housing and are a vital part of the operations of each residence hall community. Reporting to the Neighborhood Operations Manager, DAs and NOAs are students who provide customer service to residents and visitors who approach the desk.

The RA is responsible for promoting the core values of Resident Education & Development to create an environment conducive to living and learning, foster the personal growth of students and build a sense of community within the residence hall system.ÌýResident Advisors are students who are supervised by Community Coordinators.

The Operations Assistant (OA) position is designed with former ÃÀ¸ß÷¹ÙÍø Housing Desk Assistants (DAs), Neighborhood Operations Assistants (NOAs), and Resident Advisors (RAs) in mind!

OAs are students employed by University Housing who are vital toÌý maintaining standards for the physical conditions of the residence halls. Reporting to the Assistant Director for Housing Facilities and Operations, they conduct and report assessments of communal and resident spaces.Ìý

Senator Place and The Eden Grad have Resident Apartment Managers (RAMs) living on-site to assist graduate housing tenants with the transition to the University, city, and graduate school as well as to serve as a resource. They are graduate students who are dedicated to making our complexes a welcoming place for graduate students. They participate in an on-call duty system and can be contacted after 5 p.m. on weekdays and all day on weekends, winter season days and University holidays.

Resident Education & Development employs six-seven Graduate Assistants (GAs) who oversee specific topics/areas within the department.

Two-FourÌýGAs for Residential Communities, each reporting to a Community Coordinator. They work collaboratively with them to shape the environment and experiences of residential students by providing engagements, support, and services. .

The GA for the Audre Lorde Learning CommunityÌýassists in the development and implementation of the Audre Lorde Learning Community in Stratford Heights. TheÌýAudre Lorde Learning Community is designed for students interested in community action. The LLC is an opportunity for interested students to live in a welcoming and supportive environment within the on-campus residential community.

The GA for Marketing and Recruitment assists in the development and management of all marketing needs through a variety of ways including managing the marketing for our recruitment practices account and documenting processes and programmatic efforts through photography.Ìý

The GA for Organizational LeadershipÌýassists in the planning and implementation of residential community tours, oversees the RA resource room, and assists with departmental recognition.Ìý

The GA for Residential Leadership InitiativesÌýassists in the advising of the two preeminent student leadership organizations:

  • Residential Housing Association (RHA): RHA strives to improve residential life by serving, advocating, and representing on campus residences.
  • National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH): NRHH shall strive to provide recognition for those students living in the residence halls who have shown outstanding service and who have provided leadership in the advancement of residence halls.

For the 2025-26 academic year we will be searching for the following positions:

The Community Coordinator (CC) is responsible for the management, administration, services, and activities in a residential building/area consisting of 450-800 students.

The Community Coordinator assists with the selection, training, supervision, and evaluation of 11-22 Resident Advisors (RA), one full-time University Service Associate, and other student/staff members, depending on area. Other duties include community development, student development, staff development, student conduct, crisis intervention, programming, hall government advisement, and summer programs.

This person is a member of the Resident Education and Development Senior Staff team and is directly supervised by the Area Coordinator of their assigned hall.Ìý

This is a full-time, required live on-campus position, and promotes community development for staff and students.

The Academic Initiatives Coordinator is responsible for managing theÌýday-to-dayÌýprogrammatic operations of the residential curriculum. This includes:

  • Plan, design, evaluate, and coordinate departmental initiatives within a residential curriculum called the Bearcat Experience for Resident Education & Development.
  • Provide direct supervision to the GraduateÌýAssistant for the Audre Lorde Social Justice House.
  • Serve on university and departmental committees as it relates to programming.
  • Serve in the on-call rotation for the entire residential population.
  • Design and facilitate departmental training and workshops to professional and student staff specific to the needs of the residential curriculum.Ìý
  • Implement and interpret assessment techniques regarding student learning, training experiences, and program initiatives.
  • Develop and implement a marketing strategy in order to recruit students and program participants to departmental initiatives.Ìý
  • Interact with staff, faculty, external agencies, and other university departments.
  • Assist with the Living-Learning Communities program by supporting the development, planning, and implementation of communities in connection with campus partners.
  • Manage budget responsibilities for all programmatic expenses.
  • Assist in the coordination of marketing information and staffing for all large-scale Admissions events.
  • Must be able to work occasional weeknight and weekend hours.
  • Perform related duties based on departmental need.

This role is key to successfully supporting the bridge between academic and student affairs.ÌýThis is a required live on position in one of our residential on-campus apartments and includes a dining meal plan along with professional development funds.Ìý

As a full-time professional live-on staff member of the Resident Education & Development (RED) management team, the Area Coordinator (AC) is responsible for the management, administration, services, and activities in a residential neighborhood.

The Area Coordinator assists with the selection, training, supervision, and evaluation of non-exempt and/or exempt staff. Other duties include community development, student development, housing assignments, staff development, student conduct, crisis intervention, programming, hall government advisement, and summer programs.

This is a required live on-campus position, and promotes community development for staff and students. The AC supervises Community Coordinators and reports to an Assistant Director.

NOCs are full time professional staff who counsels students and other constituencies with expertise in multiple areas pertaining to our housing operations.

Operations may include application process, student accounts and student records, and housing registration and changes. NOCs employ professional judgment and decision-making skills to meet students’ service needs. They supervise a desk assistant staff of 30-45 undergraduate and graduate students.

NOCs provide local administrative support for multiple functions of the department. Neighborhood Operations Coordinators are supervised by the Assistant Director for Operations.
