Social Media Account Creation

Creating a New Account

All proposals to create an official 美高梅官网 social media account must be presented to their unit or college's leadership for justification and assessment for strategic review. At this time, 美高梅官网 MarCom does not require permission for social media account creation. However, to ensure your account aligns with the university鈥檚 goals and branding, we recommend following the criteria and best practices below:

  • Proposed account content does not fit within any other university-official channel but is essential to reach college/department/division goals.

  • Account creation for a university department/unit must be approved by the college/department/division Marketing Lead.

  • Account passwords and logins must be maintained by account administrators and shared with the college/department/division Marketing Lead.

  • Accounts must have two full-time employees with administrative access and at least one full-time employee dedicated to content management, monitoring, and engagement.

  • Account administrators must be full-time employees. Students may not be named as account administrators.

  • Account creation must be linked to a university-supplied 6+2 email address; non-university-supplied emails cannot have access to the account.

  • Accounts must enable Duo-authentication.

  • Accounts must have a planned one-month content calendar.

  • Comments and direct messages must be monitored daily. Requests or concerns should be responded to or escalated to your college/department/division Marketing Lead within 24 hours.

  • Accounts must adhere to content creation frequency thresholds to ensure engagement and visibility.

While creating a new social media account may seem necessary, maintaining an effective and engaging presence requires significant resources鈥攏ot just time for setup and posting, but also the strategic planning needed for content development, audience engagement, and visibility.

Consider whether your goals can be met by contributing content to an existing account or using other communication channels (e.g., digital screens, newsletters).

Unit leadership reserves the right to evaluate and advise against account creation if it does not align with best practices, contributes to brand fragmentation, or poses institutional risks.

Questions to Consider

  • What do you want to accomplish through social media?聽

  • Who is your intended audience?

  • Which social media platforms will you use?聽

  • How will you build your audience?

  • How else is your current audience being reached?聽

  • Is there an existing account where you could provide content instead of creating and managing a new one?

  • How often do you plan to post on each platform?聽

  • Who is responsible for creating content, monitoring the account daily, and engaging with followers?

  • What type of content are you planning to create?聽

It is important to review these questions with your leadership. Once unit leadership has reviewed your answers and provided approval for the new account, you are ready to create an account.
